congratulations perfect person on your perfection
I have DEFINITELY NEVER had this argument VEHEMENTLY AND EXTENSIVELY.
What. Why won’t you guys believe me? WHAT.
ONE SPACE. ONE SPACE PEOPLE.
(and don’t even GET ME STARTED on the oxford comma)
Oh, jeez, don’t get ANY OF US started on the Oxford comma.
It amuses me, how vehement people are about these. I used to be a two-spacer, but I got into the habit of one-spacing, because I’m told that’s how publishers prefer it. It also gives me the illusion of saving time. I mean, one whole twitch of my thumb every sentence!
Double-spacing is actually a print convention, apparently an outdated one. Nobody should be typing two spaces after a period if they’re writing strictly for the internet.
Use two spaces if your work will be laid out via non-electronic technology.
No one’s work is laid out via non-electronic technology.
Stop using two spaces.
As someone who does proofreading for people of various ages, I come across the double space pretty regularly. All it does is up the chances you’ll forget to do it every time and that will have to be fixed.
Some people attempt to solve this problem by setting their word processors to insert two spaces after a period. Which is fine until they end a sentence with something other than a period?
And if you are able to preset your word producing device to always insert two spaces after a period, guess what?
You don’t need two spaces.
p.s. Debates over the matter at my place of employment have looked pretty much like the above.
YES THANK YOU
God, the number of authors who don’t get this no matter what you put in your submission guidelines…
